Being the body of Christ means caring for each other like family, because we are members of God's household and joined together by God's Spirit. When there is a need, someone steps forward to help. When there is a reason to rejoice, we rejoice together. When someone is hurting, another person comes alongside to share the burden. God calls us to esteem others above ourselves in love.
Jesus said, "the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45). Following our Lord's humble example is an imperfect work-in-progress involving many spiritual battles. Sometimes there are sobering setbacks. Other times there are God-given victories. Through it all our Great Shepherd patiently teaches us new lessons so that we might become more like Him.
